“The energy of the underlying narrative fueling our reactions will affect the energy field of the other more than the actual words or actions themselves.” …The Wisdom Keepers
In a previous post I mentioned that I drew the Holy Mountain card from the Mystical Shaman’s Oracle Deck for 2024. In a meditation this week, I journeyed again to the Holy Mountain. As I stepped through the gate at the top of the mountain, I was greeted by 13 luminous beings dressed in long robes with cowls like monks wear. They told me that were the wisdom keepers.
The wisdom keepers are traditionally the medicine men and women who have learned, through their own experience and practice, the wisdom that has been communicated through generations and they can now access that wisdom themselves. They are the masters who have brought to light their shadows, their stories and karmic and ancestral pasts, so that they have dropped their baggage and mastered the art of walking in the worlds of matter and the invisible world of spirit simultaneously. The wisdom keepers have stepped outside of time and realize that ‘death’ is but an ally, that can guide us from this world to the next, in our big transitioning, allowing them to walk through life without fear of death.
In the Q'ero and Inca traditions, the wisdom keepers reside in the mountains. It is believed that the mountains contain all the wisdom gained through the millions of years it took for them to evolve into the majestic peaks they are today. For the wisdom keepers, the mountains are their altars that connect them to the original essence of nature and to the mystery of the Great Spirit. Through the mountains, the wisdom keepers connect "with the essence of the planet. They feel the power of the minerals, the bones of the earth and the spirit that resides within and towers above Pachamama."[1] The wisdom keepers think of life beyond the personal. Their caring goes behind the nuclear family while at the same time they narrow their focus to themes that are most important at a given time order to be most effective.[2]
At a time when our culture is so focused and reactive to the most recent post on social media or to a particular individual frame of our collective movie, not able to see the beginning from the end or even the historical influence of a current moment or where a choice might take us, I find it important and and even necessary to step outside of time into the accumulated wisdom of the centuries to gain a wider perspective or understanding or even what my response might or ought to be. “The years have a wisdom the days know nothing of” is a paraphrase by Hilda Studebaker, a dear friend and frequent image in my dreams, of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s saying that “The years teach what the days never know.”
As I turn 80 years old this year, I look back over my life and see what the years have taught me that the days of my life did not know. Some of the things that the years have taught me are that gratitude, compassion, care, generosity, understanding and love are more important than me getting my way or my need to be right. I’ve also learned that lying deep within the human soul is an unknown land, a land with its own characters, its own laws, and its own story that longs to be lived. This story is revealed through our dreams, synchronicities and intuitive hunches and in the symbolic meanings of our behaviors, desires and attractions if we can but wake up to their meanings. Carl Jung has said that which we do not make conscious we live out as fate. The shaman would say that until we wake up, we are often living someone else’s dream, a story someone else has written for us, whether that be our families, a religious system or some collective narrative. In any case, we may have missed our destinies.
Besides listening to my dreams and paying attention to synchronicities, I’ve found shamanic journeying to be a valuable tool for getting information and guidance for my life—information and guidance that has provided a greater perspective and a greater understanding on how best to think about and live my life. For example,
I travel to the Underworld to visit with Huascar, the guide and guardian of the Underworld. We come to a pool of water surrounded by beautiful vegetation. I notice many hummingbirds. Huascar tells me “This is the Place of the Hummingbirds.” I look into the pool, which is crystal clear. Mist rises from the pool, and Huascar tells me that the mist rising from the pool is the wisdom of the hummingbird. He instructs me to visit this place regularly and that I will learn to read the mist rising from the pool.
Suddenly I hear these words, “Look deep within the pool that is inside you and you will find the wisdom of the universe.” I’m thinking, “I don’t know whether these words come from Huascar, the pool, or the hummingbirds.”
It is as if Huascar hears my thoughts and answers “It doesn’t matter because they are all one. Energy of the one is continually exchanging itself with the energy of the other.”
I think “But then how does one distinguish between them?”
Again, as if hearing my thoughts, he answers “There is no distinction. It is the human mind, the ego that has the need to separate.” As I continue to meditate on this image, I see mist rising. The mist takes various forms. (Journal, 5-6-12).
The message of this journey is there is no separation between mind and body, no separation between spirit and matter. The energy of one is continually exchanging itself with the energy of the Other. This was the message—a message that science itself is now asserting. Everything is made up of energy and everything exchanges that energy with everything else at all times.[3]
In another journey,
I traveled to the upper world to sit with the Ascended Masters. As I arrived at the place of the Ascended Masters which was also connected to the Spirit Walkers with whom I work, I told them that I just wanted to sit with them and to feel their energy. I was permitted. I placed my intention on absorbing the solar flares. As I did, I heard these words, vibrating everywhere, "Words create reality. The words you speak create energy fields that vibrate with the frequency of the words. That energy attracts to it the reality of that word. So, choose your words carefully"
As I reflected on this message from the solar flares, I decided to think about the words I choose in response to what happens in my life and to what people say or do, because, what I say creates an energy field that vibrates with the meanings and manifestations of those words. I can either fuel the creation of an energy field that maintains and/or creates that particular experienced reality, or I can respond in a way that neutralizes the energy field being created by the words. I can even respond in a way that creates a thought field of love and compassion by accepting, even honoring the experience of the other. In this way I can transmute the energy underlying the words and contribute to dissolving its potentially negative impact on myself and on the environment.
Putting the information and guidance given in these two journeys together (1) the energy of the one is exchanging itself with the energy of the other and (2) words create energy fields that attract that reality, then how do I best create energy fields or use my energy that will create a better world for ourselves and the planet? While the obvious answer is to choose my words carefully, for they affect the energy of the other, I wondered if there was more to that question. So, I journeyed to the Wisdom Keepers and posed that question.
The Wisdom Keepers say, “it isn’t about creating energy fields. It is about becoming and being the energy that you want the world to be. To do that you must wake up and stay aware. Slow down. Examine the emotions and thoughts that are fueling your verbal or behavioral response. Take them into the heart and see them through the heart. See them energetically and notice how they will affect the greater field. Will they bring balance and harmony? Notice what is fueling your emotions and thoughts. Are they coming from an unhealed wounded place? Are they coming from an angry and defensive place of self-protection? Are they coming from a fragile ego that needs to be right or win? Are they a compensatory or reaction formation response to shield your true feelings ? It is the underlying story or narrative fueling your reactions or responses that will affect the energy field more than the actual words or actions. The words and actions are just the manifestations of your energy. The energy of the other responds to your underlying energy field. That is why it is so important to “clean up your own river. That is the place to begin.”
Taking my cue from the Wisdom Keepers’ response, I will address their admonition to “clean up our rivers” in future posts. In the meantime, I will reflect on the underlying energy and story that is fueling my responses and reactions. Do you have a question for the Wisdom Keepers? Below is a guided journey to the Holy Mountain to meet the Wisdom Keepers and to ask your questions.

Thank you Sheldon. As you subtlely indicated, the present period is one of extreme polarization causing angst and destabilization to the human race. This has caused an imbalance in the Universe where negatively charged energy is dominant. It is up to those souls who can see past the present, focusing on the long game to refocus the energy toward the positive. Causing the pendulum to shift may not be an easy feat but can be accomplished by sure will, backed by the correct attitude.
According to the Law of Conservation of Energy, as first proposed by Einstein, energy can be neither created or destroyed. When people use energy, it does not disappear. Conversely, when people create an energetic field, new energy is not brought into existence. Rather, energy changes from one form of energy into another form. Thus, we do not need to go to battle with the dark energy to destroy it. All we need to do is shift the present energy toward the positive.
Finally, you make an important, empowering point through and your own reflections. Huascar advises us that "...they [we] all are one. Energy of the one is continually exchanging itself with the energy of the other." We are truly Spirit/Energy in human form connected to all. Looking within the pool of energy within us reflects the entirety of the Universe. To see this is empowering. To live this is to be God, having the ability to change the apparently external world through our thoughts, actions and words.
