The Galactic Serpent
The Movement of Earth's Kundalini Energy
I awakened one morning this past week with the Galactic Serpent on my mind. It is believed that there are times on Earth when Mother Earth’s Kundalini energy moves from its resting place in the planet’s core and like a snake moves across the surface of the world. The "Galactic Serpent" is considered a legend, as it is a mythical creature not based on scientific fact. The idea of the Galactic Serpent appears in various spiritual and indigenous traditions across different cultures, often associated with the Milky Way galaxy and represents cosmic energy or creation forces.
According to the legend, the “Galactic Serpent” or Earth’s Kundalini energy was once at home in ancient Lemuria. Then it moved to Atlantis and then to the Himalayan mountains of India and Tibet where it has been resting for the last many centuries. According to the legend, every relocation changed our idea of what spiritual means. It is believed that the Earth’s Kundalini energy has moved again, and this movement is ushering in a new era. This time, it is believed that the Galactic Serpent has moved to the Andes Mountains of Chile and Peru awakening the feminine energy of the Americas.
The Hopis and Mayans as well as the prophecies of many other Native American visionaries from Black Elk to Sun Bear speak of a time of transition from one World Age into another. Their common message has to do with concerns over the choices that we will make as we enter the future ahead. According to their teachings, moving through this change with either resistance or acceptance will determine whether the transition will happen with cataclysmic changes or gradual peace and tranquility.[i]
It is believed that the 2012 phenomenon which regarded December 21, 2012, as the end-date of a 5,126-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar was the start of a period during which Earth and its inhabitants would undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, marking the beginning of a new era. Whether we believe in or agree with these prophecies or not, certainly the unfolding of events over the past several decades indicate that we are in such a transition.
The shaman foretold the arrival of the Galactic Serpent to the Americas and how to awaken and receive its power. According to the teachings, this movement of the Earth’s Kundalini energy would usher in a time of natural disasters, storms and upheavals of many kinds because that is the only way that humanity can learn that we must change our ways and come back to the ways of the mother. Once we get the lesson, according to the teachings, the earth will stop teaching us in this way. (From “The Galactic Serpent: Chronicles of an Expedition to Awaken and Receive the Power of the Galactic Serpent.”)
In 2012, I made a pilgrimage to Mt. Pachatusan in the Andes and sat with the shamans in ceremony. While at the time this journey was part of my initiation into the healing practices of shamanism and energy medicine, looking back I realize that through those ceremonies I also entered into a vibrational prayer for the future of the Earth and humankind—the ripples which continue to vibrate in the collective field today. That is the power of ceremony!
One of the ways to move through these times with grace and acceptance so this change will be, as the indigenous peoples suggest, a gradual peaceful and tranquil transition instead of a cataclysmic one is through spiritual practice and ceremony. Spiritual practice not only changes us, it also changes the world around us. Whether we do some sort of meditation, prayer, dance, yoga, art, music, walk in nature, walk a labyrinth, sing a song, chant, light a candle, build a fire or create a mandala as I will share below, whenever we step into the creative space of the sacred, we can with our intentions release what no longer serves us—old wounds, resentments, old beliefs, pain, places of anger, hurt and bitterness—and give them to mother earth to mulch and transmute into energy that she can use. Then we can step into an elevated emotion of gratitude, compassion, care, love, joy, and peace and radiate those vibrations through our bodies and out into the field around us. Remembering that energy follows our intentions and our awareness, we can then radiate those elevated emotions into the collective field and change the vibration of the earth. That is because we and the Earth are one. In fact, we are the Earth. That is the importance and value of a regular sacred practice done with intention.
Here is a ritual and ceremony that I find extraordinary in its power to bring healing, transformation and change and move energy. It is called a Mandala. It is typically done on the earth but can be done inside anywhere you can designate a space for a sacred circle that you can leave open for 3 days.
The Mandala Ceremony
1. Make a circle on the ground (or floor). You can use sticks, pinecones, stones, pieces of string, anything that you find in nature or you can simply draw a circle on a piece of paper. You can make it any size you like.
2. Select a stone or stick to represent this time of change and transition. Take a few minutes and focus on this time. As you focus on this time of change, let whatever emerges come into your awareness and blow this time of change and transition and all that you are holding about it into the stone or stick. Take some time and with your intention breathe all the thoughts, fears, beliefs, judgments, stories you’ve created about this time, etc.—anything and everything that comes up for you--and blow it all into the stone or stick with your intention to release it all and give it to mother earth. When you get a sense that you have released what you need to release, place your stone or stick anywhere you like inside the circle.
3. Now, decorate your circle using leaves, moss, stones, sticks, flowers, and anything you like to represent the energy and people that are around this change as you are carrying or holding them. You are making a symbolic representation of the work that you are doing to successfully move through these times. Breathe into each object a prayer, an intention, a dream, your hopes, a person that you have difficulty with, any fears that you have and place each object inside the sacred circle. Breathe into the objects both what you are releasing and what you are wanting or intending to bring into manifestation, giving it all to Spirit. Place each object in the circle. You have now given to mother earth your prayers and dreams for the future. I suggest that you blow one more prayer into an object, a prayer for the highest good for all and place that into the mandala.
4. Leave the mandala open for 3 days. Sit and meditate with it from time to time during the 3 days. Let it speak to you. You might find that you want to move the items around, letting them take different shapes or arrangements. You may remove some and add others. You might retrieve the rock or stick that represents this time of change. Hold it in your hand. Feel it. Examine it and recall your previous identification with this time. Let the stone or stick speak to you. Maybe it will tell you how this current situation is serving you in some way. Maybe it will let you know your part in this transition, what lessons you are to learn from this time, or what is it that you need to do to move on. Trust yourself with what wants to happen and what comes to you. After each time you sit with your mandala and work with the stone or stick you might find that you want to remove something from the circle or add something or move things around. During these 3 days, Spirit is mulching and transforming the issues, shifting the energy. The stone or stick and other things you place in your sand painting are representations, visual aids that represent the energies you are working with. The changes are happening in you. Typically leave the mandala open for three days. However, sometimes it needs or wants to stay open a little longer. Check in with it and see if the circle is ready to be closed at the end of 3 days.
5. At the end of 3 days, close the mandala. Take all the things from the circle that are burnable and form a prayer bundle. Then simply put earth back the way it was so that no one can tell that there was ever anything there. Burn the prayer bundle in a fire ceremony. Or you can bury it or release it in a body of water.
6. If the mandala isn’t ready to close, keep it open for one more day and then close it as described in #5 above.
Below is a documentary done prior to 2012 that speaks of the time to come from the Q’ero prophecies.
