Fellow substacker, KW Norton, recently reminded me that “when the time is right - it is simply right.” Now is the time for us to bring into greater consciousness and relationship the part of us that remembers that we are all children of the Earth, the part that remembers that everything is connected, that everything is alive and has a spirit, an energetic signature or imprint and is responsive to our intentions.
Our inner shaman knows that we are technicians of the sacred, mediators between the visible world of matter and the invisible world of spirit. I think of the shamans as the “go-betweeners.” She knows that we can journey into the world of spirit, these places of non-ordinary reality and communicate with luminous beings, spirit helpers and power animals which become our allies and act as guides, guardians, informants, protectors and healers.
The shaman knows that all creation—the earth, humans, whales, rocks, and even the stars—everything is made up of vibration and light and that as shamans we can learn to perceive this vibration and light that makes up the physical world. Thanks to the discoveries of quantum physics, we've come to understand that all matter is densely packed light, and this vibration and light can organize into a thousand shapes and forms.
We humans are also luminous beings, made of light. We're surrounded by a luminous energy field (LEF) that maintains the form and health of the body. The LEF organizes the body in the same way the energy fields of a magnet arrange iron filings on top of a piece of glass. The imprints in the LEF give instructions to our DNA which then manufactures the body. According to the Andean wisdom teachings, our luminous energy body contains energetic imprints of everything that has ever happened to us since the beginning of our soul's existence, including the stories of our ancestors.
The shaman knows that we can heal and upgrade our LEF and create a new body—one that can age, heal and even die differently from our inherited stories. As shaman, we remember that we are not only children of the sun, the sky and the stars. We are also children of the Earth and as children of the Earth we embrace feminine way of Ayni, the awareness that we are in sacred reciprocity with all that is, that we are co-creators with the divine and that everything is sacred. We also recognize that as shaman, we do not do this on our own. In fact, it isn't us at all, but the spirits guides, power animals, plant spirits and other helping spirits, our allies in the spirit realm that assists us. In fact, they are the ones that supply what is needed in any situation. Critical to the shamanic path is our relationship with the spirit realm or what is referred to as non-ordinary reality and our helping spirits.
The shaman knows that everything is alive — with spirit. The earth we walk on, the air we breathe, the vines of the forest, the birds flying overhead, our parents and children, our ancestors, all possess a spiritual aspect that is different from, but connected to their physical aspect. This intangible spirit is the animating force behind all things; the energy permeating everything, living or inert. All the forces of nature vibrate with a life force. The shaman knows it is possible to affect human physiology by interacting with the spirit world; that spirit can and does affect matter in real and vital ways.
The shaman also knows that there are many beings of entirely spiritual constitution, without a physical component at all. They are called gods or goddesses, sprites, fairies, devas, power animals, or spirit allies— all beings who exist primarily in a spiritual form. The singular "spirit" refers to the basic power of the universe that supports all creation. When used in the plural, "spirits" are typically beings with individuality. They may present as animals, teachers in human form, or aspects of nature, such as plant or river spirits.
The crux of the conviction is that all life, be it spirit, animal, human, or plant, is connected. The actions, thoughts, beliefs, and intentions of each component of the whole affect all other components to varying degrees and even affect the universe itself. To live in harmony in this multidimensional universe one must understand not only the laws and the lands of the physical world, but the principles and terrain of the spiritual world. As used here, "spiritual" doesn't necessarily mean religious, but energetic or intangible.
Maneuvering in this web of creation, this intertwining world of spirit and nature and man, is the shaman's life's work. It is the relationship with this spiritual dimension that heavily influences the quality of life for an individual and a community. In shamanism we do not use our own energy in doing healing work; we work in partnership with the spirits. The shaman is the hands and heart that the spirits work through. As shamans, we are the technicians of the sacred who mediate between the world of mortals and the world of spirits.
Ken Wilber describes the map of the universe as being like a "Great Nest of Being." "According to this nearly universal view, reality is a rich tapestry of interwoven levels, reaching from matter to body to mind to soul to spirit. Each senior level 'envelops' or 'enfolds' its junior dimension — a series of nests within nests within nests of Being — so that everything and every event in the world is interwoven with every other, and all are ultimately enveloped and enfolded by Spirit, by God, by Goddess, by Tao, by Brahman, by the Absolute itself.
Recently I sat with a group of shamanic practitioners discussing the messages that we give our bodies. The shaman leading our discussion reminded us that the body is always listening and making subtle adjustments to what it hears. She reminded us to listen to what we are telling our bodies because our bodies are always listening. What if it isn’t just our bodies that are listening, but the Universe itself is listening to what we say? The shamans believe that our external world mirrors our internal maps and if you want to change the external world, we must change the internal maps.
Energy follows awareness as Joe Dispenza is so fond of saying. Energy follows our intention and our attention. Where we place our thoughts, our focus and our attention is where our energy goes and flows. The shaman challenged our group of shamanic practitioners that day to pay attention to what we are saying, to pay attention to where we are placing our focus and intentions because the Universe is listening. Not only is the Universe listening, helping spirits and forces in nature are waiting and longing to assist us in dreaming a new world. In a recent journey to the Upper World to meet with those from the future, I was given this message:
“Open your heart. Remember at any given moment you have more than enough to meet the moment by remembering your connection to Source. It starts with one and the choice is yours. Know that we have your back and everything that you will need. We are dreaming a new world, but we need you to help us bring our dream into manifest form.”
I leave you with this call:
Open your heart to celestial assistance and honor the light, love and wisdom of the Hanaq Pacha (Upper World) and call upon the celestial beings devoted to love and service to guide you to your highest good. The time is now!
Several years ago on a shamanic journey I met a spirit guide whose message to me was: ”The Time is Now.” Here is the painting I did to honor that journey and message. The feminine extends to us our next manifestation. The man behind her is the masculine energy that supports her.
